In this publication, we advance listening to children in primary RE as a classroom method. We think that RE will draw lifeblood from the dialogue, and that something close to the heart of RE's purposes is going on when children are enabled to express their ideas about religious and spiritual questions in the classroom. Learning about religion is important, and when children learn that it is Christians who celebrate Easter with hopefulness, and Muslims who approach Id-u-Fitr with gratitude to Allah, then something worthwhile is going on. But when children also reflect on their own celebrations, and feelings of hope or gratitude, in the light of their learning about Easter and Id, then RE is complete.
